I. About Us
Founded in 1901, Shandong University (SDU) is a key comprehensive university under the direct jurisdiction of the Chinese Ministry of Education, and a member university of the nation’s construction plan of world-class universities (Category A). Shandong University's campuses are in the cities of Jinan, Qingdao and Weihai.
Shandong University, Weihai (SDUW), was founded in 1984 and is now an open and comprehensive university with a variety of disciplines. Currently, the university is home to more than 13,000 undergraduate students, 2,500 postgraduate students, and 300 international students. Over the years, SDUW has established cooperative relations with 120 universities from 15 countries and regions in the world.
II. Program Overview
This program aims to develop the Chinese language skills of international students and present them with rich and profound Chinese culture. The language training included in the program mainly focuses on improving Chinese speaking skills of international students, while the culture courses focus on helping international students learn and understand Chinese traditional culture and customs. In order to identify various levels of Chinese language proficiencies of international students, the College of International Education arranges a Chinese language proficiency test at the beginning of the semester, and set up different levels of teaching classes according to the students' test results. Those who successfully complete the program will be awarded the Certificate of Completion by SDUW.
III. Application Dates
Spring Semester: February 2025 - July 2025
Application Period: 1 October 2024 - 1 March 2025
Please note: Applicants can choose between a one-semester language study or an academic year (two semesters) of language study, depending on their circumstances. Supplementary materials cannot be submitted after the application system is closed. Applicants are advised to complete their application at least two weeks before the application deadline.
IV. Modules
This program includes both compulsory and optional modules, of which the compulsory course is 20 hours per week.

The program also has language and culture courses (optional modules) to present international students with a more comprehensive understanding of China, such as Traditional Chinese Painting, and Traditional Chinese Calligraphy.
V. Entry Requirements
1. General Requirements
(1) Applicants must possess a high school diploma or above.
(2) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental conditions and possess valid foreign passports.
(3) Applicants under the age of 18 at the time of application need to submit relevant supporting documents at the time of application and entry.
2. Requirements on Citizenship
According to the provisions of Notice by the Ministry of Education of Regulating Admission of International Students in China's Higher Education Institutions:
(1) Those who were born with a foreign citizenship with their parents (or parent) as Chinese citizens that stay abroad permanently are not considered as Chinese citizens. From 2021 onwards, their application for admission to our higher education institutions as international students at the undergraduate level, in addition to meeting the other eligibility criteria of the university, they should present a valid foreign passport or certificate of citizenship attained before for at least 4 years, along with proof of residence abroad for at least 2 years within 4 years (before April 30 of the enrollment year) (staying abroad 9 months per year may be considered as one year, subjected to the entry and departure stamp);
(2) Residents of the mainland of China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan who acquired foreign citizenship after emigration to foreign countries shall meet the requirements of item (1) of this notice if they apply for admission to our higher education institutions as international students.
VI. Application Documents
1. Electronic photo (Color standard ID photo, size not exceeding 200kb, pixels greater than 295*413. Photos must be in JPG, JPEG and PNG formats).
2. The biographic page of the applicant’s passport.
3. Diploma or pre-graduation certification of high school education or above (official seal of the school required).
4. Academic transcripts of all courses during high school or above (official seal of the school required).

6. Physical Examination Form for Foreign Citizens. Applicants should take physical examinations in strict accordance with the requirements of the Physical Examination Form for Foreign Citizens (please click the link to download the template: https://ipo.wh.sdu.edu.cn/cnistudy/info/1008/1387.htm ). Incomplete forms or forms without signature of the attending physician, hospital stamp, and stamped photo will not be considered. The result is valid within 6 months before the application.
7. Certificate of No Criminal Conviction (it must be within the validity period at the time of application).
8. Scanned copies of Statement of Financial Support through a Guarantor and its supporting documents, including:
(1) Statement of Financial Support through a Guarantor, which should be filled in Chinese or English (please click the link to download the template: https://ipo.wh.sdu.edu.cn/cnistudy/info/1008/1388.htm);
(2) Bank Statement certifying that the applicant has sufficient funds to cover his or her tuition, accommodation, living expenses, and international travels during his or her study in China;
(3) The scanned copies of the passport biographic page or I.D. card of the applicant’s financial guarantor (only the applicant himself/herself or his/her direct family can act as a financial guarantor).
9. Applicants who have studied in other colleges and universities in China should provide a letter of recommendation issued by the international student office or college of their university, with the contact information of the office or college specified on the letter of recommendation.
10. Applicants mentioned in the Notice by the Ministry of Education of Regulating Admission of International Students in China's Higher Education Institutions need to submit relevant supporting documents (please click the link to download the template: https://ipo.wh.sdu.edu.cn/cnistudy/info/1001/1422.htm ).
11. Applicants under the age of 18 need to submit supporting documents (please click the link to download the template: https://ipo.wh.sdu.edu.cn/cnistudy/info/1001/1389.htm ).
VII. Application Procedures
1. Applicants are required to apply through the SDUW Online Application System for International Students (http://apply.wh.sdu.edu.cn), filling in the application information and uploading the required application materials in the system, and do not need to send paper application materials by post.
Note: No paper application documents required.
2. Applicants will be informed of the pre-admission results through the SDUW Online Application System.
3. Payment Methods
After obtaining the pre-admission qualification, applicants should pay application fee, tuition fee, and insurance fee via bank transfer. Applicants should upload the payment voucher via the SDUW Online Application System, and will get receipts upon registration.
(1) Remittance from abroad:
It is strongly suggested to remit in CNY. If the remittance is made in USD, please make sure the amount could also cover the exchange rate margin and service charge, and the excess, if there is any, which will be returned to the student during registration.

4. Receive formal Admission Notice and the documents for visa application posted by the university.
VIII. Important Information
1. All the documents uploaded should be in Chinese, English or Korean. For documents in other languages, scanned copies of the original documents and the notarized translations in English or Chinese are required. Please upload the scanned copy of the original or notarized application documents (colored). Please use a scanner as images taken by mobile phones or cameras will not be accepted. Handwritten documents will not be accepted with the exception of the Physical Examination Form for Foreign Citizens or signatures.
2. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
3. Admissions department reserves the right to require applicants to provide the original/notarized paper documents or the certification documents issued by the designated certification authority for further inspection.

5. Applicants must ensure that the application information and materials they provide are true and accurate. If it is verified by the admissions department or the accreditation authorities that the information is not true, the applicant will be disqualified from applying, being admitted, or studying.
IX. Admission and Registration
International students can log in the online application system to check the admission results. Shandong University, Weihai, will issue an electronic version of the Admission Notice and an electronic version of the Short-Term International Student’s Information Form (DQ Form) or an electronic version of the Visa Application for Study in China Form (JW201/202 Form) to the admitted students. (Note: Please be sure to apply for registration with a valid e-mail address).
The admitted students need to register within the time period specified in the admission notice. The original of graduation certificate and language proficiency certificate will be verified upon registration.
X. Fees (CNY)
1. Application fee: 400 CNY per person (Applications are not valid if the application fee has not been paid. The application fee, once paid, is non-refundable.)
2. Tuition fee: 7,000 CNY per semester
Medical insurance premiums: According to the regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, international students coming to China need to purchase medical insurance in the mainland of China. The medical insurance fee is 800 CNY per year per person. Students who have not purchased medical insurance will not be registered (please log in to http://www.lxbx.net for insurance contents and claims procedures)
XI. Visa
Admitted students must apply for a study visa to China at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in the applicant's home country with the Admission Notice, Short-Term International Student’s Information Form (DQ Form) or Visa Application for Study in China Form (JW201/202 Form).
International students who will study in China for less than 6 months should apply for the X2 Visa. International students who will study in China for more than 6 months are required to obtain the X1 visa, and they have to go to the International Students Affairs Management Section of the International Office of the university within 30 days of arrival in China to apply for the supporting documents to convert your X1 visa into a residence permit.
