According to Chinese law, foreigners must go to a local police station to register residence within 24 hours of moving into a new place of residence.
Students who live on-campus should register at the reception of your dormitory building.
Students who live off-campus should register at the local police station with documents as follows:
1. For student who owns a property outside the campus:
a. Copy of the property ownership certificate
b. Passport
c. Copy of passport information page
d. Copy of a valid visa
2. For those who rent an apartment outside the campus:
a. Lease agreement and it’s photocopy
b. Copy of the property ownership certificate and ID card of the landlord
c. Passport
d. Copy of passport information page
e. Copy of a valid visa
Note: International students must report to local police station in case of changing the address, passport information, visa and residence permit, and re-entry records. Failure to register within the prescribed time will be deemed as illegal residence. Under any of the following circumstances, a warning shall be given, and a fine of not more than RMB 2,000 may also be imposed: foreigners fail to go through the formalities for altering registration in accordance with the relevant regulations when there is any change in the registered items in their residence permits; or persons concerned fail to go through accommodation registration formalities.
